Outbreaks plague China’s pork herd

China’s pork production fell for the seventh consecutive quarter in the April-June period.
Second-quarter pork output fell 4.7% compared with the same period a year ago to 9.6 million metric tons, according to Reuters’ calculations. This combines to equal a 19.1% drop for the first six months of the year.
China slaughtered 251.03 million hogs in the first six months of the year, a 20% drop from the same period a year earlier, as the nation struggles with outbreaks of both COVID-19 and African swine fever.
