U.S. hog herd down 1% from last yearThe bullish September hogs and pigs report indicates producers are keeping production at a level that meets consumer demand, reported Farm Journal last week.
“We’ve seen in other years an irrational expansion that hurts the whole industry. The fact that we are keeping the supply in check given all the uncertainty out there — especially the increasing costs — I think that’s positive for producers,” Altin Kalo, chief economist at Steiner Consulting, told Farm Journal.
