Soy oil innovation strengthens Iowa’s roads

Clayton and Fayette counties and the city of Volga are repaving roads utilizing soy technology that enhances long-term performance.
Two northeast Iowa counties are repaving asphalt roadways using an innovative material derived from soybean oil — creating new markets for Iowa crops while cutting construction costs and improving road durability.
The Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa (APAI) held an open house in Elkader Oct. 8 to showcase rural road reconstruction projects in Clayton and Fayette counties and the city of Volga.
Funded by a $4 million Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant, the projects highlight the use of soy-based technologies.
