The U.S. pork sector is growing, and supplies are expected to continue to expand into 2018, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) latest quarterly hogs and pigs report showed.

The U.S. inventory of all hogs and pigs on June 1 was 71.7 million head. This was up 3 percent from June 1, 2016, and up 1 percent from March 1, 2017. This is the highest June 1 inventory of all hogs and pigs since estimates began in 1964, the USDA noted.

There were 22.2 million hogs and pigs in Iowa as of June 1, the USDA said. This was up 7 percent from June 1, 2016, the report noted.
