The Iowa inventory of all hogs and pigs on March 1, 2018 was 22.6 million head, up 5 percent from March 1, 2017, the USDA said last week in its quarterly hogs and pigs report. The U.S. inventory was up 3 percent to 72.9 million head between the December to February period, a record high.

The Iowa breeding inventory was up 2 percent from March 1, 2017, to 1.02 million head. The U.S. breeding inventory, at 6.20 million head, was up 2 percent from last year.
