The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is encouraging federal officials to increase surveillance and put in place a straightforward process for regulating and inspecting imports of dogs and other pets from countries that have positive foreign animal disease (FAD)  cases.

Pet adoptions increased last year when lockdown measures went into place around the U.S. as many people turned to pet stores and animal shelters for four-legged companionship.
