Murky future for biodiesel plants 

Recent plant closures highlight the financial challenges to the industry.

It's likely that more biodiesel plants will close in 2024 due to challenging economic conditions and stagnant growth of the market, according to a new study by University of Illinois ag economist Scott Irwin.

Earlier this month, Chevron Re­­newable Energy Group announced it was closing two biodiesel plants in Ralston, and Madison, Wisconsin, because of poor market conditions.
