Legislators encourage U.S. to intervene in Mexico’s biotech ban

Iowa Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst are urging U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai to intervene in Mexico’s plan to end biotech corn imports. The proposed ban would effectively phase out the import of 90% of U.S. corn shipped to Mexico by January 2024.
“Any interruption to [corn export] shipments will severely affect our farmers and the state’s economy and have dire economic consequences for the entire Corn Belt,” Grassley and Ernst wrote in a letter to Tai.
