Farmers ask lawmakers for help on Prop 12, biofuels and trade concerns.

While Congress address­­­­ed a number of critical agriculture issues in the One Big Beautiful Bill, Farm Bureau members from Iowa reminded lawmakers last week that several critical policies still need to be updated.

About two dozen Farm Bureau county leaders from across Iowa traveled to Washington with Iowa Farm Bureau’s annual summer national policy trip to meet with the state’s congressional delegation along with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials and others.

The One Big Beautiful Bill, signed into law July 4, modernized farm safety net programs through 2031 and made many key tax provisions permanent.  

However, Farm Bureau leaders urged lawmakers to continue its momentum to address other important policy updates such as authorizing nationwide year-round E15, addressing laws like California’s Prop 12 that disrupt interstate commerce and strengthening guardrails around the Conservation Reserve Program...
