Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.8 million head on Feb. 1, 2017. The inventory was 1 percent above Feb. 1, 2016, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said.

There were 640,000 head of cattle in Iowa feedlots with a capacity 1,000 head or more on Feb. 1, 2017. This was up 3 percent from 2016, and up 7 percent from January 2017, the report said.
