Markets Looking toward Harvest
Now that the calendar is turning to August, we will start to see a shift in market focus. For one, we will see even more interest in U.S. weather patterns because in several recent years U.S. crops have either been saved or lost in August.

This is currently more of a factor on soybeans since the crop is now setting and filling pods. This doesn't mean weather is no longer a factor for corn; ear fill is still taking place, and we can see a big impact on crop quality. History has shown that adverse conditions now can impact test weight, which is a major factor in what buyers are willing to pay for the crop.
