Ahead of the Aug. 12 release of U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) next planted acreage estimate, analysts said last week they expect a drop in corn acres and a slight bump in soybean acres, FarmWeekNow.com reported.

Todd Hubbs, University of Ill­inois ag economist, said he ex­­­­pects corn planted acres ranging from 85.2 million to 86 million acres, down from the USDA’s last estimate of 91.7 million acres. On soybeans, he believes the planted area is 81 million to 82 million acres, up from the USDA’s estimate of 80 million.
