To be a young farmer means to be resilient and seize opportunities, oftentimes creating your own opportunities.

That’s the message Iowa Farm Bureau Young Farmer Advisory Committee Chair Vanessa Trampel shared last week during the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation’s annual meeting last week in Des Moines.

“When there isn’t enough room for us to come back to the family farm, we’re seeking jobs that support agriculture,” said Trampel, who besides farming with her husband, Kody, and children, Pierce and Finley, southeast of Garner in Hancock County, works as an occupational medicine nurse.
