Melissa Lang likes to create beautiful things by hand, the old-fashioned way.

“It feels good to make something,” says Lang, an Adair County Farm Bureau member and the owner/operator of Mulberry Fiber Studio near Greenfield.

In her studio, the fiber artist creates fiber batting, spun yarn and finished knitted and woven products by carding, spinning and weaving the fibers on hand- or foot-powered primitive tools.

Her instinct to start every project from the very beginning even takes her outdoors on her acreage to the sheep, alpacas and angora rabbits she raises to produce animal-sourced fibers in many forms.
