U.S. hog inventory up slightly


The U.S. inventory of all hogs and pigs on Sept. 1 was 79.1 million head, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) September hogs and pigs report. This was up 1% from last year, but down 1% from June 1. 

In Iowa, there were 25.1 million hogs and pigs on farms, according to the report. Inventory was up 100,000 head from the previous year. Iowa’s June-August 2020 quarterly pig crop was 5.99 million head, up 3% from the previous...
