President Donald Trump last week announced he would negotiate rather than terminate the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Throughout his campaign and early in his presidency, Trump called NAFTA "one of the worst deals ever" and threatened to terminate the deal. However, calls from Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Trump to reconsider. Additionally, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue urged him not to sign an executive order withdrawing the United States from NAFTA.

Trump then announced he would look at renegotiating NAFTA rather than terminating the deal, which has been in place for 23 years.
