Time to evaluate corn plant health, begin regular scouting

Corn plant health evaluation should begin later this month. August is the prime time for grain fill in Iowa, and the plant is working hard to convert sunlight and nutrients into starch in the ears.
Stress during the grain-filling period can cause the corn plant to cannibalize the carbohydrates stored in the lower stalks and remobilize these reserves to the developing ears.
