The rules and regulations as­­sociated with selling meat from a farmer’s own livestock can be daunting, but many who put in the work have found rewards on the other side.

“I wanted to start learning about selling meat from my Holstein herd. I learned a lot from this workshop a few years ago,” said Alyssa Yoder of Iowa County while attending this year’s Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer Conference held recently in Altoona.

Yoder attended a session titled “Rules of Selling Meat Products to Consumers,” which focused on teaching farmers and ranchers the rules of selling animal products in Iowa and across the globe.
