Iowa's cattle herd still growing
While farmers elsewhere in the U.S. are liquidating their herds, Iowa is adding to its count.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) annual all cattle report shows Iowa’s herd continues to grow even as nationally the herd shrank again in 2024.

All cattle and calves in the United States as of Jan. 1 totaled 86.7 million head, 1% below last year's 87.2 million head and the lowest Jan. 1 inventory since 1951....
