Corn growth took off with the heat in early July, Ten Napel said July 11. “We might be seeing a few tassels by the weekend,” he said. “We got our beans sprayed. They’re still a little short.” He’s had around 2 inches of rain since the last report, and areas north of him had 4 to 5 inches. Tonnage was good on second-crop hay. Farmers are holding off on spraying fungicides, he said.
