The latest cattle on feed report released last week by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows the U.S. cattle herd continues to grow.

The USDA reported 11.1 million head on feed in U.S. feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 head or more as on June 1. That’s up 3 percent from June 1, 2016, the report noted.

Prior to the report, analysts estimated that the number of cattle on feed would be up 2.2 percent, the Daily Livestock Report noted.

In Iowa, there were 680,000 head in feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 head or more, the report noted. That was up 8 percent from 2016.
