Helping gauge rainfall data accurately

Many rain gauges in southeast Iowa have read empty for several months, but that information hasn’t been getting to sources used in granting disaster relief assistance to farmers.
That was the case in Davis County in southeast Iowa.
Last year, as conditions started getting really dry there, Linda Shumate and some other farmers compared their area to neighboring counties on the U.S. Drought Monitor map.
