On Aug. 29, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) posted changes on its website and began outreach to carriers of anhydrous ammonia that a Hazardous Materials Safety Permit (HMSP) is no longer required when domestically transporting anhydrous ammonia. Ammonia is still classified as a 2.2 inhalation hazard. Carriers will still have to meet all of the associated requirements for carrying a 2.2 hazard, including related tank placards. However, a HMSP will no longer be required for domestic transportation of anhydrous ammonia. Click here to read the rest of the memo from The Fertilizer Institute.
