Cattlemen explore interest in reinstating state checkoff
Iowa beef industry leaders are seeking input from cattle farmers throughout the state about the possibility of reinstating the state beef checkoff after a survey last year showed considerable support for the idea.
A survey of more than 900 producer-members of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) last fall indicated that about 80 percent of the respondents were interested in reinstating a 50-cent state checkoff, says ICA President Phil Reemtsma of DeWitt.
"With 80 percent in favor, we thought it important that ICA facilitate a referendum and work toward that," Reemtsma said.
