Agriculture is poised to be an early leader in the Biden administration’s plan to fight climate change while generating more farm income at the same time, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said last week. 

While it may take other industries like energy, manufacturing and construction a few years to adopt or create more climate friendly systems, agriculture can help immediately by sequestering carbon in the soil and building on renewable energy successes, said Vilsack. He spoke to farmers at the 2021 Commodity Classic special edition and other venues a week after being confirmed by the Senate for his second stint as head of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
