The Allamakee Soil and Water Conservation District, based in Waukon, is the recipient of a nearly $300,000 award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to evaluate seeding cover crops into V4 to V7 corn stands.

According to the district office, the project arises from the need to plant cover crops early in the season to allow them to get established prior to the onset of winter weather.
