On Wednesday, the U.S. House approved H.R. 7575, the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2020, by voice vote.
The Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2020 would authorize the construction of 34 new projects. WRDA 2020 authorizes the study and construction of locally-driven projects that were developed in cooperation and consultation with the Army Corps of Engineers.
In early May, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee marked up and passed its WRDA bill, known as America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2020, which includes the committee’s version of the WRDA bill. The bill has still not been considered by the full Senate.
Congress has successfully enacted three consecutive WRDAs in 2014, 2016, and 2018.
Agriculture depends on efficient ports and inland waterway infrastructure.
