Report shows more cattle in Iowa, fewer in the U.S.

The latest cattle on feed report issued last week shows more cattle on feed in Iowa feedlots, but fewer cattle on feed in U.S. feedlots.
Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.9 million head on April 1, 2014, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) cattle on feed report. The inventory was 1 percent below April 1, 2013.
There were 670,000 cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in Iowa feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head on April 1, 2014, the report said. This was up from 630,000 on April 1, 2013.
Placements in U.S. feedlots during March totaled 1.80 million, 5 percent below 2013....
