With large pork production expected in 2017, it’s important that the pork industry reach out to export partners to expand sales abroad.

"Ninety-six percent of our population lives outside of the United States. This means we have a huge opportunity for pork exports in feeding that population," said Becca Nepple, vice president of international marketing for the National Pork Board.

In 2016, 5.1 billion pounds of pork and pork variety meats valued at $5.94 billion were exported, up 8 percent and 7 percent respectively from 2015, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
