The pork industry recently recognized three individuals working in Iowa’s pork sector for their commitment to animal care.

Leon Sheets, a pig farmer from Ionia, was recognized as the 2017 Pig Farmer of the Year. Sheets, a Chickasaw County Farm Bureau member, raises 33,000 pigs on his farm and also grows corn, soybeans, hay and cover crops.

As Pig Farmer of the Year, Sheets said he’s interested in connecting more with consumers, and showing the public how he cares for his pigs.
