When it comes to increasing the efficiency of raising cattle on pasture, management is key, an expert told farmers last week at a pasture walk in Grand River.

Careful pasture management has allowed cattle farmer Dan Hostetler to lower his feed bills and make more use of his pastures as a feed source.

"It’s unbelievable how much better my pastures are today than what they were 30 years ago," the Decatur County Farm Bureau member told farmers at the pasture walk he hosted on his farm last week. The workshop was one of several held in Iowa and Missouri with Jim Gerrish, a grazing consultant and rancher now based in Idaho.
