The domestic meat and poultry industries have a large impact on Iowa’s economy and the U.S. economy, according to a report released last week. The impact of those industries exceeded $1 trillion for the first time, according to the study commissioned by the North American Meat Institute (NAMI).

The study was conducted by John Dunham & Associates based in New York City and uses data from 2014, according to a news release.

More than 5.4 million jobs in the United States are due to the meat and poultry industries, the report noted. These jobs generate more than $257.5 billion in wages, the NAMI report said.
