The Agriculture Department’s Agricultural Marketing Service has issued notices for two rules revising program features for the Livestock Mandatory Reporting program.
AMS issued a Direct Final Rule that redefines the terms of packer and importer for lamb reporting requirements. In addition, a proposed rule for the program has been issued to amend swine and lamb reporting requirements. This proposed rule adds a negotiated formula category to the purchase types of hogs; requires late-afternoon hog purchases to be reported in next-day morning reports; amends the definitions of “packer-owned lambs” and “lambs committed,” and requires packers to report price, volume and classifications for lamb pelts.
AFBF is reviewing both rules for opportunities to influence final program language.
