OSAGE — Phil Anderson is one of only four Tarentaise cattle breeders in Iowa.

Anderson’s first encounter with Tarentaise, a French breed of cattle, was by chance.

“While growing up, my favorite part of dad’s farm was the cow pasture. So, it was kind of a coincidence when I began looking for a group of cows, after my first tour in Iraq,” he said. “I was looking through the ads and discovered a group of cows for sale that was the exact number of animals I was looking for and the price was reasonable.”

Anderson served two tours of duty in Iraq with the Iowa National Guard. He graduated from Osage High School in 2001 and from Iowa State University in 2006 with a degree in animal science.
