Iowa’s hogs and pigs inventory was 23 million on March 1, a drop of 3% since Nov. 30, according to last week’s quarterly hogs and pigs report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). 

The same 3% decline was also seen in Iowa’s year-over-year numbers.

Nationwide, the U.S. hog herd stood at 72.2 million head. This total is down 2% from March 1, 2021.
