The grain export situation in Ukraine has become even more volatile in recent weeks with the expiration of the grain corridor that has facilitated shipping of grain through the Black Sea and a number of drone strikes on grain facilities in Odesa and riverports on the Danube. Figure 1 shows grain production (barley, corn, grain sorghum, and wheat) in Russia and Ukraine for the past 5 marketing years. Production and exports of grain from Russia are trending higher. In 2019, Russia produced 108 million metric tons (mmt) of grains and exported 43 MMT of that grain.
