The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and extended by the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, mandated U.S. transportation fuel to blend minimum volumes of renewable fuels every year to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, expand the U.S. renewable fuels sector, and reduce dependence on imported oil.
