Recreational users of un­­man­ned aerial systems (UAS) must register their systems with the federal government via a new website beginning Dec. 21, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced last week.

Anyone using a hobby UAS, or drone, that weighs from 0.55 pounds up to 55 pounds is required to register as a UAS operator.
