Economist paints grim outlook for pork profits

The costs associated with hog production, especially feed prices, will continue to be high in 2023, calling profitability into question for pork producers, said Steve Meyer, ag economist with Partners for Production Agriculture, at the Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines last week.
Meyer estimated the average lean hog price per hundredweight this year at $85-$88, with the best prices likely to come in the fourth quarter.
