A cattle market analyst says the expansion phase of the cattle cycle may be coming to an end.   

CattleFax senior analyst Kevin Good expects the nation’s cow herd to expand by another 200,000 to 300,000 head in 2018. But he says the rate of expansion is slowing, according to Brownfield, which spoke to Good at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) convention in Phoenix last week.

“We think we’ll expand a little more in ’18, but by 12 to 18 months down the road, the herd’s probably hit its peak,” Good says.
