Wetter march helps recharge soil moisture

While the unseasonably cold period during February was cold enough to rank the month as the eighth coldest February on record for Iowa, conditions moderated going into March. Temperatures averaged 5 to 8 degrees above normal into late in the month. 

This warmer pattern melted snow cover fairly quickly in most of Iowa, and there was only one significant March snowfall that occurred around the middle of the month. March...
