Building Soil Health With Cover Crops and Livestock for Vegetable Production

Solon, IA

Join Carmen Black and her sister, Maja, of Sundog Farm and Local Harvest CSA for a field day focused on building soil health through cover crops, grazing and reduced tillage. They’ll share current on-farm research through Practical Farmers of Iowa’s Cooperators’ Program, including how different manures, cover crops and grazing practices affect plant-available nitrogen in the soil. Attendees will also learn strategies for establishing diverse cover crops, reducing tillage and using rotational grazing to improve soil health in vegetable production and permanent pasture. Refreshments will follow the field day.
