Conservation Districts of Iowa - 79th Annual Conference

Join Conservation Districts of Iowa for the 79th Annual Conference at the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center. Connect with fellow commissioners, hear updates on conservation programs, and celebrate conservation achievements across Iowa. This year's agenda will include the Commissioners' Annual Business Meeting, a Farm Bill update with Ryan Britt, and a presentation on climate trends from State Climatologist Justin Glisan. Attendees will also enjoy conversation presentations and open commissioner discussions, as awards banquet and keynote address, and partner updates from FSA, IDNR, NRCS, and IDALS. The conference will feature concurrent breakout sessions, a silent auction, and social networking opportunities.

Cover Crop Drone Seeding Field Day

Join Iowa Learning Farms for a field day at the Mathis Family Farm to learn how to establish and manage cover crops to improve soil health and water quality. Mount Vernon, Iowa 

Join Iowa Learning Farms for a field day at the Robert Broulik Family Farm to learn how no-till and precision technology can improve soil health and water quality while reducing inputs. Robert, Luke, and Tim will share their experience with no-till, cover crops, nutrient trials, and conservation practices, and attendees will tour their new cattle barn designed for manure capture and better cow-calf management.

Enhancing Cover Crops Through Technology

Martensdale, Iowa 

Join Iowa Learning Farms for a field day with Devin Davis and Shanon Jamison in Warren County to see how they're using technology to advance conservation on their farm. Attendees will observe a drone-seeding demonstration, hear about their transition to cover crops and no-till practices, and explore the equipment and technology they use for planting into high-residue fields. Devin and Shanon will also share how they select cover crop mixes for clay soils and the benefits and challenges of seeding their own covers.

Edge-of-Field Batch and Build Water Quality Field Day

Lake City, Iowa 

Join Iowa Learning Farms and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship for a free field day at Mark Schleisman's farm near Lake City. The event will showcase cost-effective water quality practices through demonstrations with the Conservation On The Edge trailer and a site visit to a newly installed bioreactor. Speakers include environmental specialist T.J. Lynn and host farmer Mark Schleisman, who will share technical resources, funding opportunities, and on-farm experience with the batch and build approach.

Small Grains, Diverse Cover Crops, + Livestock at Whiterock Conservancy

Wednesday, September 3 | 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM 

Coon Rapids, Iowa 

Discover how Whiterock Conservancy is advancing soil health through small grains, cover crops, and livestock integration. Land stewardship director Tyler Bruck will share the conservancy's 20-plus years of experience with no-till and cover crops, as well as recent efforts to expand rye and oat production. The operation harvests and markets straw while planting diverse cover crop mixes for fall grazing by cattle and sheep. 

Participants will explore the cost benefits of small grains and cover crops and learn how Whiterock is showcasing sustainable agriculture alongside outdoor recreation.
