USDA announces new plan to bolster meat and poultry safety

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) last week launched a broad initiative aimed at strengthening the nation’s food safety efforts for meat, poultry and egg products.
The initiative, led by USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), includes enhanced testing, increased oversight, updated inspector training and new strategies to address foodborne pathogens such as listeria and salmonella.
