US Hog Inventory and Iowa Hog Inventory Decreases

Introduction
The USDA released its quarterly estimate of the inventory of all hogs and pigs in the U.S. on September 25th, 2025. All estimates are for September 1st, 2025, or the June to August quarter unless otherwise noted. Table 1 shows key estimates at the US level.
Changes of particular interest are highlighted. US hog statistics have decreased across all categories except for pigs per litter. Total hog inventory is 74.5 million heads, a 1.35 % drop from last year. Breeding hog inventory saw a decrease of 1.17% to 5.9 million heads. Market hog inventory fell by 1.31% to 68.5 million heads.
