Introduction

The USDA released its quarterly estimate of the inventory of all hogs and pigs in the U.S. on June 26, 2025. All estimates are for June 1, 2025, or the March to May quarter unless otherwise noted. Table 1 shows key estimates at the US level.  

 

Changes of particular interest are highlighted. US hog statistics are mixed. Total hog inventory slightly increased by 0.33% to 75.1 million heads. Breeding hog inventory saw a slight decrease of 0.48% year-over-year. Market hog inventory increased by 0.40% to 69.2 million heads. As seen below, the US pig crop rose by 1.27%.
