“U.S. Farmers Held Back by Dollar’s Rise,” a Financial Times article, opens with the intriguing statement that watching foreign exchange markets is now “almost as important as reading weather reports for U.S. farmers.” In the first quote in the article, Bob Young, AFBF’s chief economist, notes “The value of the dollar has made [agricultural exports] much more expensive. It’s feeding into agricultural prices and is a concern among our members.”
