Tighter biosecurity can help slow spread of pig virus

While researchers at Iowa State University (ISU) have made progress in learning more about the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv), there are still some questions unanswered.
The ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory identified the first U.S. cases of the virus in early May. Since then, the diagnostic lab has helped to confirm cases of the disease in 17 states. As of Sept. 25, there have been 644 cases of the virus in the United States. Of those, 188 cases have been confirmed in Iowa.
