Forty chances. That’s how many growing seasons farmers have to improve their productivity over the course of a typical farming career, according to a book written by farmer and philanthropist Howard Buffett.

But new data collection and analysis tools are giving farmers the ability to adjust on the fly, giving them 40 or more opportunities to improve yields within each growing season instead of waiting until after crops are in the bin.
