Report shows severe impact of PEDV losses

Last week’s hogs and pigs report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) showed the impact of the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) on hog supplies. The United States inventory of all hogs and pigs on June 1 was 62.1 million head, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in a report last week. This was down 5 percent from June 1, 2013, and down 1 percent from March 1, 2014. The inventory was the lowest in seven years.
