Last week’s hogs and pigs report from the U.S. Department of Ag­­riculture (USDA) showed the impact of the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) on hog supplies. The United States inventory of all hogs and pigs on June 1 was 62.1 million head, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in a report last week. This was down 5 percent from June 1, 2013, and down 1 percent from March 1, 2014. The inventory was the lowest in seven years.
